How Missed-Call Text-Back Works
If a caller hangs up before your AI answers — maybe after 1 ring, maybe they got impatient — they get an automatic text within seconds. That text keeps them engaged before they call your competitor.
The message comes from your CallLegend number, so replies come back to your dashboard and can trigger another AI call.
Default Text-Back Message
Out of the box, the message reads:
"Hey, this is [Business Name]. Sorry I missed you — I'll call you back shortly. Or reply to this text and we'll get you taken care of."
You can customize this in Automations → Missed-Call Text-Back → Edit Message.
Enabling SMS in the Dashboard
- Go to app.calllegend.com
- Click Automations in the sidebar
- Find Missed-Call Text-Back and toggle it On
- Customize your message if desired
- Click Save
That's it. The automation runs silently in the background on every missed call.
SMS Follow-Up Sequences After Calls
Beyond text-back, you can build multi-step SMS sequences triggered by a call. Example:
- 1 hour after captured lead: "Hi [Name], it's [Business Name]. Just following up on your call — are you still looking to get that taken care of this week?"
- Next morning: "Good morning — I have an opening this week. Reply to schedule or call [number] to get on the calendar."
Set up sequences in Automations → Follow-Up Sequence.
Compliance — How CallLegend Handles SMS Opt-In
SMS messaging requires consent. CallLegend handles this automatically:
- The initial text-back message includes a simple opt-out line: "Reply STOP to opt out."
- Customers who reply STOP are removed from future automations immediately
- Opt-in is implied when a caller contacts your business number
